Your order then gets shipped back to you.
*Important notes*
- The strands of your animal fibre must be at least 5cm (2in) long. Keep in mind that shorter strands yield fuzzier yarn compared to longer strands which yield smoother yarn.
- Fibre that has been brushed off of your pet is best, as it collects the fluffy warm undercoat. If submitting fibre that has been cut or shaved off of your pet, do not include any short, second cuts or fur from areas that are shorter than 5cm (2in) in length.
- Please do not prewash your fibre, as fibre that has been felted is unable to be processed. For sanitary reasons, each incoming batch of fibre is washed, no matter how clean it appears on arrival.
- Return shipping cost is paid by you; the cost is calculated by Canada Post and will be specified on your invoice.

Skirting, Fibre Washing & Carding
These stages are required for all orders. Skirting involves laying out the fibre and thoroughly picking out soiled clumps, matts and fibre bits that are not ideal to be included in the finished product. Washing involves soaking the fibre multiple times in warm, soapy water to break down and remove the dirt and grease. Carding involves brushing the fibre to align the strands and preps them for spinning.
Standard for every order: $15.00 / 100g raw weight.
Additional wash (for extra dirty/greasy fibre): $1.50 / 100g raw weight.
Fibre blending
Spinning into yarn
$25.00 / hour
All yarn is spun 2-ply to minimize pilling and to maximize durability of the final product.Yarn weight/thickness will end up between a DK to Aran weight. Yarn is handspun on a manually powered spinning wheel. Yarn undergoes a finishing wash to help the fibre bloom and to set the twist. Finished yarn comes in the form of a hank.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long must my pet's fur be?
The animal fibre must be at least 5cm (2in) long. Fibre that has been brushed off of your pet is best, as it collects the fluffy warm undercoat. If using fibre that has been shaved off of your pet, do not include any short, second cuts or fur that is shorter than 5cm (2in).
Keep in mind that the longer the length of the fibre, the more smooth the finished result will be. The shorter the length of fibre, the more fuzzy the finished result will be.
Is there a minimum amount of fibre required?
No. However, if submitting less than 50g then your fibre will need to be blended with another type of fibre (either Merino or Rideaux Arcott) to add bulk and yardage to the finished product.
Why Doesn't the Starting Weight of the Fibre Equal the Finished Weight of the Fibre?
The weight of the batch of fibre decreases after the dirt, grease and debris are removed. Sections of the fibre that are not processible are discarded (i.e. heavily soiled, matted, damaged, short cuts). Some shorter fibres and guard hairs fall out of the batch during processing (which is a good thing, it minimizes scratchiness of the final product). Approximately 5-10% of fibre may be lost during processing.
